If you are in the mood for wine, spirits or beer, get your taste buds ready as there are a slew of opportunities in the next few weeks all over the city, and beyond.
This weekend the 27th annual Grapefest hits the streets of Grapevine for a four day festival which will include the largest consumer judged wine tasting in the country of 140 different wines poured by 35 wineries located throughout Texas, as well opportunities to taste national/international wines, stomp some grapes, meet winemakers and enjoy local music on one of the 5 entertainment stages. September 18 The Grape hosts their monthly “come as you are” wine dinner, this month featuring the wine of Tabali Winery, located in Limari Valley very close to the Atacama Desert in Chile, one of the driest places in the world, proving great grapes can thrive in even the worst growing conditions. The dinner will feature three courses created by Chef de Cuisine Danyelle McPherson paired with Tabali wines for $48 per person. September 19 from 6pm-9pm Trinity Groves, with partners Savor Dallas and CBS Radio, will host a pairing event featuring wines from all over the world, including Viu Manet from Chile, Pine Ridge from Napa, Becker from the Texas Hill Country and bubbly from Zonin Prosecco in Italy, paired perfectly with bites from 3015 Trinity Groves, Luck (Local Urban Craft Kitchen), Chino, Resto Gastro Bistro and more, located within Trinity Groves. $40 per person, tickets and additional details here.
September 21 the 5th annual Dallas Wine Trail celebrates the wineries of Dallas, including Times Ten Cellars, Fuqua, Calais and Inwood Estates with a walk around tasting event at each of their Dallas locations. September 27 Chef Graham Dodds of Central 214 will let his inner beast out with a monthly feast on the Central 214 patio roasting different, somewhat unique, Texas meats on their new spit-rotisserie. Septembers feast will include Windy Hill goat from Comanche, TX and Bandera, TX quail, along with beer provided by local Granbury brewer Revolver Brewery. $50 per person, reservations required – 214-443-9339.
And, September 30 Sevy’s Grill will host their monthly wine dinner, this month featuring Duckhorn Vineyards, the well loved Napa Valley winery known for their incredible Napa Cab and Merlot. The four-course dinner begins with a champagne reception at 7pm, $95 per person, reservations required – 214-265-7389.
Sevy’s Chef/Owner Jim Severson and his wife, Amy, are also in Napa this week participating in the Cakebread Cellars American Harvest Workshop. I had a chance to attend a few years ago as a guest of the winery and was inspired by the dedication to use with locally sourced products the winery strives to give their Chef attendees and guests, like in Napa Hog Island Oysters, Cowgirl Creamery and Point Reyes Cheese, and the abundance of local produce. I expect to see great specials popping up on Sevy’s menu from the trip.
