Fluellen Cupcakes To Open Downtown

There is so much going on downtown. On Saturday, I took the dog to his favorite store, Downtown Pawz, and let him pick out a treat. After taking him home, the husband and I walked over to Freshii and got lunch. Then we moseyed over to TenOverSix to check out the store’s accessories. Afterward, we stumbled across a downtown garage store, and then we checked out Homegrown Festival. Exhausted, we walked the block back to our apartment, and took a nap.

I’m almost scared to say it, but, here goes: I think Dallas may finally have its downtown.

I’m not the only one who’s noticed. Hospitality Sweet opened last week, then Freshii (which is actually open long enough for downtown residents to use), and now we’re getting something called WingBucket (don’t have info for you on that), and Fluellen Cupcakes.

Fluellen is run by Keith Fluellen, a real estate developer and co-owner of Dimples Cupcake Factory in Frisco. You remember Dimples, right? The owners we wrote about are no longer part of the organization, recipes have been adjusted, and vendors have been paid. “We take care of our employees,” Fluellen says.

With all these changes, Fluellen thought it was time to branch out on his own. In his job, he couldn’t help but notice what was happening in downtown Dallas. “I could see the revitalization,” he says. “I was blessed to find a good spot.” That spot is at 1408 Elm Street, between the Jimmy John’s and CVS, one block from DART (and, as luck would have it, one block from me!). While cupcakes will be the store’s bread and butter, it will also have a coffee bar with coffee from Distant Land Coffee, headquartered in Tyler, Texas.

And the very best part? In the beginning, the store will be open until 9 most nights and 10 on Fridays and Saturdays. Fluellen says they’re taking their time with construction, and making sure they do everything right. He says the store will open the second week in June.

So there you have it. I’m just waiting for the day when it isn’t news that a store is opening up downtown. I think that time is quickly approaching.

A cupcake store open until 9 p.m. is dangerous territory.

      You mean delicious territory.

Downtown is on fire (and last week it was literally on fire when one broke out at the Homewood Suites). If only we could get a Trader Joe’s, Alamo Drafthouse, City Target and cool-but-affordable stores like ZARA and H&M, I would never have to travel outside the loop.

  • Pegaso

    Oh and a Yumilicious

  • Knightengale

I haven’t tried it, so I’m not sure it’s as good as Yumilicious, but Freshii does have frozen yogurt. And it’s open until 7.

A city Target would be amazing!! I miss the one in Seattle. I agree about the retail. It would be nice to have a Banana Republic downtown, as well as a movie theater.

Dimples Cupcakes are the BEST in DFW. We have driven all over and tried every cupcake we can find and we still love Dimples WAY more than the others. We will certainly be visiting Fluellen Cupcakes as soon as it opens!!! Yeah!

Someone needs to put a cool bar/restaurant/store in the old Ten space. Prime location and pretty much anything would be an upgrade over Ten.

I just tried Freshii’s fro-yo, pretty good. I mean, it’s no Yumi, but in a pinch, it’ll do.

I have tried Fluellen’s, and they are delish. My fav is the banana pudding cupcake. I remember the dimples disaster a couple years back. These are good cupcakes so I am glad to see them back

I stopped going due to horrible customer service. I tried 5 flavors and the were all bland but 1. I was a faithful customer and one day I told the lady on my last visit my card wasn’t stamped. She refused to stamp a mere card unless I produce a receipt. This is after I had just purchased a cupcake. Im in my 40s with a professional income. Why would I lie about a mere stamp? I was slightly offended but rhe same happen again. After rising from eating I told the guy they forgot to stamp my card for what i’d justveaten and for the dat before. He asked if I had rge receipt from the day before, dear God. Who keeps receipt luke that? I looked , then became frustrated and left. after such i tore up my card and will not return. Especially after one of the girls saidvthe stopped double stamp Tuesday. I suppose to many customers were using it, sad. There are far to many eateries to spend money on one that act as if customers are expendable. one girl said
