California-based Gatik has opened a new autonomous trucking facility at the Mobility Innovation Zone at Fort Worth’s AllianceTexas. The expansion comes after $85 million in Series B funding, led by Koch Disruptive Technologies, was raised to scale its fleet of Class 3-6 Autonomous Box Trucks across new markets in North America.
Gatik expects around 500 jobs to be created by 2025. The company helps customers trim supply chain costs, improve operational efficiencies, and achieve shorter delivery times throughout its middle mile logistics.
“Texas continues to thrive as a place of unlimited economic opportunity, and we are proud to welcome a cutting-edge company like Gatik to Fort Worth,” Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement.
TWF Invests $12.9 Million in Social and Economic Change
The Texas Women’s Foundation reported $12.9 million in investments between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021, advancing its research, advocacy, and innovation mission.
The foundation awarded 416 grants totaling $10.8 million to provide access to healthcare, economic security, and representation of marginalized communities. Additionally, $2.1 million was invested in programs advancing its mission and commitment to building communities with fully participating women and girls.
Dallas’ AcctTwo Joins Baker Tilly
Baker Tilly acquired accounting and cloud technology service firm AcctTwo Shared Services. The acquisition expands Baker Tilly’s digital practice of outsourcing, tax, and assurance consulting.
Both respective firms have offices in the Dallas area, and the acquisition becomes effective on Oct. 1.
The Grandscape Wheel Opens in The Colony
Soaring nearly 200 feet above Grandscape, the Grandscape Observation Wheel, designed by Dutch Wheels, opens September 10 at 2 p.m. in The Colony.
The wheel has 42 climate-controlled gondolas, seat up to eight, and include music. VIP glass floor gondolas are also an option. Grandscape was the Retail Deal of the Year winner in D CEO’s 2021 Commercial Real Estate Awards.
NerdsToGo Pursues Franchise Expansion in Dallas
Computer repair and technology service franchise NerdsToGo is eyeing North Texas to add 30 new locations by 2024. NerdsToGo was acquired by DFW-based Propelled Brands, including brands such as FASTSIGNS, My SALON Suite, and Salon Pizza.
Since the acquisition, NerdsToGo views Dallas as an opportunity to grow and help businesses transition into remote work among small and medium-sized companies.
BUILD Dallas and The DEC Network present ‘Immigration & Entrepreneurship’
The third virtual event in the DEC@Redbird and B.U.I.L.D. Collaborative’s joint series, “Building a Greater Dallas Through Inclusive Entrepreneurial Growth,” takes place Wednesday, Sept. 15. The event is for business support practitioners, capital providers, ecosystem builders, and philanthropic partners.
This event will focus on the state of immigration and entrepreneurship throughout Dallas. The session features conversations with economic impact experts Christina da Silva, Welcoming Communities & Immigrant Affairs Officer, City of Dallas; DeNita L.
