GameStop Announces New CEO and CFO

GameStop

Matt Furlong

Matt Furlong, Chief Executive Officer

Matt Furlong most recently held a senior role with Amazon as a Country Leader, where he oversaw Amazon’s Australia business during a growth period. He previously oversaw growth initiatives in Amazon’s North American Consumer business as a Technical Advisor.

Furlong joins a handful of Amazon execs flocking to Coppell retailer GameStop, under board chair, and Chewy executive Ryan Cohen. His new role will begin on June 21.

Mike Recupero

Mike Recupero, Chief Financial Officer

Mike Recupero also joins GameStop from Amazon, where he was previously CFO of the company’s North American Consumer Business and CFO of Prime Video. In total, Recupero spent more than 17 years at the mega-retailer.

He replaces Jim Bell, who resigned from GameStop in February, following the company’s stock explosion fueled by investor chats on Reddit.

University of North Texas System

Dannetta English Bland

Dannetta English Bland, Chief Diversity Officer

Dannetta English Bland joins the UNT System after nearly 17 years at Deloitte, where she worked closely with the chief inclusion and diversity officers. While at Deloitte, Bland designed and delivered in-person, virtual, and web-based DEI labs, learning programs, training, and experiences for students, executives, and board members.

As UNT’s first-ever CDO, Bland will communicate strategic initiatives and progress toward DEI to the UNT System Board of Regents and all system and campus leadership levels.

Jordan Phelps

Jordan Phelps, Partner and Chief Financial Officer

As CFO, Jordan Phelps leads Weaver’s internal financial planning, management, and reporting to maximize efficiency and minimize risks. Phelps added partner to his title at the start of June.

Dallas Dugger

Dallas Dugger, Partner, Audit Services

Dallas Dugger began his career with Weaver and now has more than 11 years of experience auditing government and nonprofit entities, including colleges, independent school districts, large municipalities, and private schools. He also has audit experience in commercial industries such as health care, manufacturing, technology, distribution, and retail. He previously was a senior manager at the firm.

Teresa Garza

Teresa Garza, Partner, Tax Services

Teresa Garza focuses on tax planning and compliance for partnerships, corporations, and S corporations in the upstream and midstream energy markets. With more than 10 years of public accounting experience, she also serves clients in private equity, manufacturing, distribution, retail, and professional services. She was previously a senior manager in business tax services at Weaver.

Aaron Grisz

Aaron Grisz Partner, Tax Services

Aaron Grisz has provided proactive tax consulting and planning services to businesses across multiple industries with a concentration in real estate, manufacturing, and distribution for more than 10 years. He focuses on complex real estate transactions, flow-through entity taxation, corporate taxation, and ASC 740. Grisz was previously a senior tax manager at Weaver.

Dallas Regional Chamber

Jarrad Toussant

Jarrad Toussant, Senior Vice President of Education and Workforce

As senior vice president of education and workforce, Jarrad Toussant will lead the DRC’s education and workforce initiatives, including early childhood education, K-12 education, higher education, and workforce development. He previously served the Texas Education Agency as the division director of college, career, and military preparation.

High Street Residential

Brent Ball

Brent Ball, Senior Vice President of Multifamily Asset Management

In this newly created role, Brent Ball will be responsible for coordinating asset management activities for HSR, collaborating with the development teams and capital partners in various U.S. markets.

Ball joins HSR from Fairfield Residential Company, where he spent 20 years and most recently served as senior vice president.

Axiom Bank

John Wattinger

John Wattinger, Senior Account Executive

Florida-based community bank hired John Wattinger to oversee a portfolio of client accounts while managing the development and underwriting of new credit requests. He joins Axiom with more than 35 years of experience in commercial, middle market, asset-based lending, and factoring.

John Skinner, Board Chair

John Skinner has served on the board of directors for five publicly held companies chairing audit, compensation, finance, and governance committees before leading  The National Association of Corporate Directors North Texas.

He currently serves on the boards of directors of Ares Commercial Real Estate and CarLotz.

Margot Carter, Board Vice Chair

Margot Carter currently serves as president of Living Mountain Capital and is the lead director of Installed Building Products. She also sits on the board of Eagle Materials.

Todd Murray, Board Secretary

A partner at Foley & Lardner, he serves as a vice president of the firm’s Securities Enforcement and Litigation Practice. Murray focuses his practice on securities litigation, director and officer fiduciary duty and corporate governance disputes, litigation involving complex accounting, accounting fraud, financial issues, and energy-related matters.
