Josh Banks: Genie Visions at the Magnolia (Presented by Ro2) — July 24, 6-9 p.m. 3699 McKinney Ave. Ste. 100 Dallas, TX 75204.

There’s a lot of Daniel Johnston in Josh Banks’ mad cap, schizophrenic creations, idiosyncratic mash-ups of imaginary and mythical creatures and characters that are shot-through with scatological humor and scathing critique.

A City Under the Influence: Kickoff Party at Fashion Art Network — July 24, 8 p.m. – 12 a.m. 3001 Quebec St. Ste. 102 Dallas, TX 75247.

“A City Under the Influence” offers a simple idea for a party: buy a ticket, get to hear some music, see some art, and enjoy complimentary beverages. But here’s the catch: half the door at this event, which is co-sponsored by FrontRow, will go to funding one of three artists who will unveal project proposals at the event. For more, go here.

the imp of the perverse by Alika Herreshoff at RE Gallery — July 26, 7-9 p.m. 1717 Gould St. Dallas, TX 75215.

Alika Herreshoff borrows the title of a Magritte painting (and a Poe story) for his exhibition at RE Gallery, and a quick glance reveals an affinity in form and feeling. Herreshoff’s paintings offer sumptuous forms that seem to ooze about his canvases. There’s a temptation to use the word biomorphic, but these feel more biological, all body fluids and wet tongues. The former member of the artist collective Dearraindrop is also currently in Houston artist Mark Flood’s dead pan exhibition “Mark Flood Resents.”

Bill Daniel: Texas Punk, Graffiti Tramp, RHS ’77 at Alamo Drafthouse — July 27, 7 p.m. 100 S. Central Expy Ste. 14 Richardson, TX 75080.

Bill Daniel will be on hand to present photos and film clips from his upcoming book “The Texas Punk Problem and screen his hobo graffiti documentary Who is Bozo Texino?” Here’s a taste:
