Dallas adds 2,614 new cases. Governor Abbott asks for more testing sites.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 2,614 new COVID-19 cases and 17 deaths on Friday.

Governor Greg Abbott has asked the federal government for help standing up more COVID-19 testing sites in Texas due to surging cases in some of Texas’ largest counties, including Dallas and Tarrant, the Dallas Morning News reports.


Despite surging omicron cases around the state, most school districts are resuming classes this week in Texas, Texas Tribune reports.  Around one fourth of all COVID-19 tests are coming back positive, and hospitalizations have increase by 1,613 compared to last week.


KERA reports that the current COVID-19 surge is unlike anything experienced before, with increases of 300 percent in just a week at Parkland Hospital.
