Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 219 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, though only 160 of them were from August. There were also five deaths. The total number of cases for Dallas County has now surpassed 70,000. “The good trends we’re seeing are the result of you wearing a mask, maintaining 6 foot distancing, washing your hands frequently, and avoiding unnecessary trips and indoor crowds where anyone is not wearing a mask 100% of the time,” he tweeted.
Beginning after Labor Day, Texas school districts will have to file a COVID-19 report with the state each week detailing new COVID-19 cases, whether they occurred on or off campus, and if the school shut down as a result. The Texas Tribune has more.
In Tarrant County, there were nine deaths reported and two more deaths in Denton County brought that county’s COVID-19 death toll to 100, WFAA reports.
Scientists are learning that COVID-19 can be spread in more ways that previously thought, NBC 5 reports. Low humidity is also a factor, as it makes the the aerosols that transfer the virus smaller and stay in the air longer, increasing the disease’s spread.
