This is a big deal.

Medical City North Hills has received a three-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for its patient care and isolated coronary artery bypass grafting procedures.

The STS is a not-for-profit organization representing more 7,300 health care professionals, surgeons, and researchers. The organization is dedicated to ensuring the best outcomes for surgical procedures within the chest and increasing the quality of cardiothoracic surgeries through research, education, and advocacy.

The STS star rating system is calculated using a mix of quality measures for specific procedures conducted by an STS Adult Cardiac Surgery Database participant. The rating system is one of the most highly respected measures of care in the health industry across the United States and Canada.

“The Society of Thoracic Surgeons congratulates STS National Database participants who have received three-star ratings,” David M. Shahian, MD, chair of the Task Force on Quality Measurement, said via release. “Participation in the database and public reporting demonstrates a commitment to quality improvement in health care delivery and helps provide patients and their families with meaningful information to help them make informed decisions about health care.”

Only 6% to 10% of participants earn a three-star rating for isolated CABG surgery, placing Medical City North Hills among the best for heart bypass surgery in the nation and Canada.

The hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission and is licensed for 164 beds. It is a designated Level IV trauma center and has Disease Specific Certification by the Joint Commission for shoulder, hip, knee, and cardiac service lines.

“This designation is another testament to the outstanding quality of the Medical City North Hills cardiovascular program, “ Mark Deno, CEO of the Medical City North Hills said via release. “This program has set the standard for cardiac surgery in Northeast Tarrant County.”
