THUMBS UP A Greene Light for Downtown

|

THUMBS UP to architect Graham Greene, whose renovation of the historic downtown Joske’s building (Titches, for old-timers) began, finally, last month. Greene successfully negotiated his way through the bureaucratic maze to obtain both City of Dallas and bank financing for a $12-million project that could bring the pulse of new life to downtown. What’s next? Dry cleaners? Coffee bars? People on (not under) the streets after 6 p.m.? Thumbs up, too, to City Manager John Ware, who supported long-term city financing, and to Bank One president Ty Miller, who was point man for the seven-bank consortium that came through for Greene. The 130 units, which will lease for between $300 and $2,500 a month, are scheduled for rental in February 1997. If Dallas is lucky, next year we’ll be talking about Graham Greene, trendsetter in urban living.
