Denigrating Doctors

I CERTAINLY AGREE THAT UT Southwestern Medical Center combines a world-class med ical school with great research laboratories and excellent patient-care facilities. However, the anecdote you chose to begin the article with, which relates one high-profile patient’s unfortunate experience with a Baylor physician, creates an inappropriate and incorrect impression. Every hospital and every physician have their share of successes and failures. I could easily recount a number of stories about patients who received inadequate or incorrect care at every health care facility in Dallas, including each of those affiliated with UTSW. The impression that “World Class” care is only available at UTSW is patently incorrect.

My point is that “world-class physicians” practice and “world-class care” is provided at many of our city’s fine medical centers. Yes, UTSW has the acknowledged leaders in some medical areas, but almost anyone who knows medicine would tell you that the clear leaders in many other fields are located at other Dallas facilities. Building up the reputation of one facility by denigrating that of another is counterproductive and in this case totally off-base. We should be proud of the excellent medical care available to the citizens of Dallas and to those who travel to our city for their medical attention. It is provided at a number of outstanding institutions!

Punks or Professionals?

THANK YOU FOR DEVOTING space to the newer members of Louis Priester Masonic Lodge #1150. Although it was a surprise for many of us to find ourselves identified as “punks” and “Deep Ellum refugees,” we hope this is Mary Brown Malouf’s way of saying that we are clever and active in the arts. Nevertheless, her limited representative sampling of our Lodge certainly skewed her understanding and portrayal of our Fraternity’s membership. Whatever eccentricities some of us may possess, your readers should also know that we are successful professionals, devoted family men, and active pillars of our community.

Calling All Call Girls

IN YOUR STORY, “THE CALL GlRL AND THE Cop,” Samantha stated that there needs to be “some sort of rehab for hookers.” There is a support group called Amy’s Friends. We have all come from the adult entertainment industry and try to focus on healing the inner pains that caused us to go into it in the first place. We are also working on putting together a program to help with financial matters, housing, rehabilitation, counseling, education, and job placement.
