DOWNTOWN IS… MIRACLES ON MARKET STREET

The magic of Christmas comes alive at the Ninth Annual West End Marketplace Tree-Lighting Celebration Friday, November 27th. Beginning at noon with the arrival of Santa in a horse-drawn carriage, and culminating with the lighting of the spectacular 45 foot Blue Spruce tree at 6:00 p.m., you’ll go home with sugarplums dancing in your head.

Wide-eyed children can visit with Rudolph, Frosty and others. Mr. Claus serves the first of 1500 complimentary slices of a giant, five foot holiday cake. Santa gives his busy elves a few hours off to face-paint children’s rosy cheeks.

At 5:15 join the young and young at heart for a delightful outdoor musical stage show on the corner of Munger and Market Streets. Dance! Sing! Celebrate the Miracles on Market Street! Noon – 6:00 p.m. at the West End Marketplace located in the West End Historic District. For additional information, please call 214-748-4801 or 214-720-1024.

THE WILSON BUILDING

The Wilson Building, a landmark downtown department store originally built in 1903 by Dallas businessman J.B. Wilson as an office and retail building, and operated by McCrory Corp. as an H.L. Green department store until early 1997, will see a new life as a residential and retail facility now under development by Post Properties, Inc.

Post plans 135 loft apartments and 10,000 square feet of street level retail, and has made provision for 177 parking spaces for residents and guests in the Main Street facility, located adjacent to Neiman Marcus’ flagship downtown store.

*’We saw an opportunity to give the building a new life, and help revitalize a key portion of downtown Dallas,” said Robert Shaw. President of Post Properties’ Western Division. “We know that the market for downtown housing is strong. Given its great location and its historical significance. The Wilson Building will soon be a premier residential address.”

Adaptive re-use of The Wilson Building began in June, 1998. First residences will be available for occupancy in Spring, 1999.
