Methodist’s Midlothian Hospital Gets The Go-Ahead

|

Methodist Health System’s planned hospital in Midlothian will be about 190,000 square feet and include five stories, 44 beds, with the capacity to expand to 80 beds. The project—which will sit on 67 acres west of U.S. 287, near the Midlothian ISD Multi-purpose Stadium—also includes a 45,000-square-foot medical office building.

The details come out in conjunction with the Midlothian City Council’s approval of the project last week. Methodist originally announced the plans back in December.

It’s the first hospital for Midlothian, which is set for some significant growth—Google-parent Alphabet Inc. is putting up a data center in town. Midlothian is located about 25 miles southwest of Dallas in Ellis County.

Methodist CEO Stephen Mansfield told me during an interview for a previous story that the system was at first considering a microhospital for the community but eventually determined it could support something bigger.

The hospital is expected to open in 2020 and, after a year of operation, will employ about 300 healthcare professionals and support staff, Methodist says.

It’s the 11th hospital for the nonprofit Dallas-based Methodist Health System.
