Two reports in Health Affairs cast doubt on whether workplace health programs save money.
One study found little evidence the programs saved month through health improvement, and suggested that penalties against unhealthy employees allowed under the Affordable Care Act may be discriminatory against lower-income workers. A second study in St. Louis found that, although hospitalization costs fell, other healthcare costs rose at a similar amount and did not save employers money in the short term.
