George Cameron Nash’s new Meyerland Collection was influenced by the 1960s-era furniture he loved as a child growing up in the Meyerland area of Houston. The 30-piece collection is several years in the making and includes a number of small tables: Olympic, Manhattan after Five, Martini, the Hilton side table, and Plaza cocktail table. The collection has Nash’s hand all over it—from the exquisite architectural detail to the finely wrought rosewood finishes and stainless steel hardware and white lacquer. Walter Lee Culp’s second-floor loft space has been redesigned to showcase Berkeley-based Ironies, which has expanded far beyond iron beds to include upholstered seating, tables, and chests, such as the Breton Bedside Table in exotic finishes of horn, tortoise, and shagreen. New lighting designs include the Hewn Sconce featuring onyx, agate, or faux bois. Organic sculptural pieces in teak and natural bamboo complete a natural but exotic collection. Famed Los Angeles design company J. Robert Scott is opening a 3,300-square-foot showroom designed by Sally Sirkin Lewis, who practically invented “California style.” The place is a cool snapshot of serenity, with Sirkin Lewis’ signature look of rich textured silks in neutral colors, clean, simple lines, and natural goatskin finishes paired liberally with black lacquer.
David Sutherland (below) has re-designed the space previously occupied by J. Robert Scott to showcase indoor collections from Sutherland Teak designed by Terry Hunsiker. Also featured: furniture with the spare, elegant lines designed by the late, great John Hutton. The new space boasts chocolate grasscloth walls, dark sisal floors, and glossy white accents that contrast dramatically with the pale, neutral colors of the main showroom. THE BUZZ
Bright Chair, whose sophisticated and contemporary upholstered seating can be experienced in such chic spots as Le Bernardin and Alain Ducasse’s restaurant at the St. Regis Hotel in New York, is opening a showroom in Dallas in September. The 5,000-square-foot space inside the International on Turtle Creek will also house Manheim-Ruseau and Innovations in Wallcoverings. Douglas Levine, previously the director of design for Holly Hunt, designed the new showroom space.
