Dallas Has the Blues

As in blue jeans. Here’s the latest scoop about local denim.

Asian Flair
Though she was born on a U.S. naval base in Taiwan, Karen Noseff has been in Texas since age 3 (and Dallas since 13). While studying to become a lawyer, fate and a passion for design led her down a different path. Influenced by her Asian-American background, she created Fortune Denim, a line of premium Japanese jeans with a Western flair in such styles as Beijing Belle, Hong Kong Hipster, and Shanghai Star. Each pair is adorned with a Swarovski-studded Chinese coin button and a satin-trim waistband featuring cute personal fortunes such as “Never turn a deaf ear to good gossip” on the inside. Pick up a pair at Crimson in the City.

Charity Case
Angie Ahmadi-Miller is the fashionable founder and visionary designer for new Dallas-based denim line Henry III Generation (named after her husband, Henry S. Miller III). Made with premium imported Italian denim, these jeans will last through five wears without losing their shape. We can’t resist the flattering cuts that elongate your legs and lift your bum. And you can feel good about your purchase: a percentage of the company’s profits goes toward relief efforts for refugees of the war in Afghanistan, Ahmadi-Miller’s homeland. Find the line at Elements, Jean Connection, Tootsies, and Neiman Marcus.

A Perfect Fit
The Market, an ever-changing section at LFT, the new, hip haunt at Victory Park, features a carousel that holds 235 pair of jeans sorted by label. Look for hot denim lines such as People’s Revolution, Rich  Skinny, Tsubi, and William Rast. Bonus: on-site tailors do immediate alterations. Also opening at LFT is Chip & Pepper, a shop-in-shop featuring the duo’s thrift-shop chic denim collection, including some exclusive designs for the Dallas store. Walk down the street to G-Star, the innovative Dutch denim store, and you’ll spy a variety of styles for both men and women, plus a colorful collection of functional casual wear designed by famed Australian designer Marc Newson. Another must-stop is the Blue Jean Bar in Snider Plaza, with more than 30 lines of “denim on tap” and a “six pack” savings punch card: buy five pairs of jeans and get one on the house (up to $200 value). Don’t think you can pull off skinny jeans? Then head to Madewell at NorthPark for great-fitting classic and fashionable cuts (all under $100), including the more flattering “skinny low worker” jean.
