Leading Off (2/15/17)

Fire in Glenn Heights, deception in Mesquite, plus a Harrison Ford cameo in today's dramatic news.
|

Intense Fire Footage. A Glenn Heights policeman pushed a flaming truck away from a Jack in the Box with his squad car. The dash cam caught the entire incident on video. Skip to the minute mark.

Big Little Lies, Set in Mesquite. A Mesquite teacher told his middle school he needed a few days off for testicular cancer surgery, to which the faculty and parents responded by donating $11,000 and car. But as it turns out, the teacher needed the time off to appear in a West Virginia court for stealing from a previous employer. Yesterday, the West Virginia court sentenced the man to 6 months in federal prison. In addition, he now faces a charge of theft by deception here in North Texas.

Dallas-bound Plane’s Brush with Fame. None of the 116 people aboard the AA flight, nor the actor, were injured, and there’s no doubt some kid who thought it was all part of the show.

Jury Deliberates for Only Four Hours to Convict Dr. Death. Sentencing begins today. Read Matt Goodman’s recap here. And if you haven’t already read Matt’s pre-trial feature on Christopher Duntsch, the Plano neurosurgeon who left a trail of bodies behind, take a moment.

Congrats to Kellie Rasberry and Candice Romo. The radio host is getting hitched (again) and the Cowboy wife is expecting (again).
