Eat, Drink, and Be Texas

Veritas Wine Room is a grown-up watering hole with a youthful spirit, the kind of place where 30 doesn’t feel old. The eclectic hangout, with large abstract Steve Lawrence paintings (all for sale) adorning the walls, has typical wine-bar fare but with a Texas twist. Instead of the standard blue-and-Brie cheese plate, taste Lubbock’s Haute Goat Creamery Blue Ballz, a hand-formed ball of goat cheese, and an assortment of whatever else cheese maker Nancy Patton sends that week. Don’t miss Wenzel Lonestar Meat Company’s bison jerky from Hamilton, Texas, or the country pork pâté made by The Grape’s Brian Luscher. Owners Brooks and Bradley Anderson stock several Texas wines, too, including Becker, Fall Creek, and Inwood Estates. But it’s not all Texan; the menu is packed with foodie finds such as dry-cured Molinari salamis like finnochiona, tinged with anise. We love the wines-by-the-glass menu. You can find a subtle Riesling for $7 or a bold California Cabernet Sauvignon for $15. The menu changes regularly so expect a few surprises. All wines are available for retail purchase. 2323 N. Henderson Ave., Ste. 103. 214-841-9463.
