Sinking Sensation



Kyle Evans makes hand-thrown stoneware sinks – an old-fashioned touch for powder rooms, bars, and kitchens. The pottery sinks are hard and non-porous, like standard porcelain sinks, and they come in 12 colors (though Kyle can match just about any color on request). Prices range from $70 for a 10-inch bar sink to $160 for a 16-inch basin. Standard fixtures and drains will fit; Kyle also makes tiles to match. Starting at $8 per square foot. Dress Rehearsal



It’s an old Scandinavian custom to make babies’ christening dresses from their mothers’ wedding gowns. Debbie Stroud had brought the custom to Dallas, making baby dresses and bassinet skirts from dresses and veils; If you want to leave the dress intact, she’ll just snip off a bit of lace and a few seed pearls. Prices range from $25 to $40. Debbie is also known for her velvet and velour robes, table cloths, and rolled silk flowers. Debbie Stroud, 361-9001.

Tux Too to Tango



When the affair is formal and you’re feeling daring, why not opt for the “retro formal” look? Harold Bell did; he rents and sells formal wear from the Forties (some never worn) through Mister Tuxedo in Snider Plaza. You can rent a skinny bow tie and cummerbund in red satin or plaid ($6), or do the whole number with a short-collared pleated shirt, pleated narrow-leg pants, and skinny shawl-collared jacket ($25). There are assorted colorful suspenders, pegged morning pants, collar-less shirts, separate wing collars, and bow ties, including satins, glitter, plaids, and paisleys.
