The Localist: Hell on the Red Hot-N-Spicy Cheese Dip

As Texans, most of us love queso. Melted cheese with tortilla chips is a staple in some of our diets (at least it is in mine). But even as a self proclaimed “good cook,” the extent of my at-home queso recipe consists of a block of Velveeta and a can of Rotel tomatoes. Admittedly, this is not really queso. Thankfully there are products like Hell on the Red Hot-N-Spicy Cheese Dip available to us here in Dallas.

This dip is very similar to what you would get at a restaurant. The consistency is perfect and the cheesiness is spot on. You have no choice but to get the Hot-N-Spicy because, well, there is no other option. And it is just that, hot and spicy.

Hell on the Red is produced in Telephone, Texas and is available at all Central Market locations. Their website hasn’t been updated in quite a while but oddly enough, their product is available through several online outlets such as ShopWell and Amazon.

If you are looking for a little extra spice and a way to double up on local goods, then you can pair the Hot-N-Spicy Cheese Dip with Gloria’s Spicy Tortilla Chips. Gloria’s are stone ground corn tortilla chips made in Fort Worth. You can find both the regular and spicy chips at Whole Foods.
