Café Salsera, which is a coffeehouse, restaurant, and salsa lounge, is slated to open in Deep Ellum this spring. If you just let out a heavy sigh after reading that, followed by an uncomfortably loud “huh?” then you and I are on the same page. Let’s get this straight. Café Salsera is a Caribbean restaurant, coffee bar, and according to the press release, a place “for Salsa enthusiasts and anyone looking for a Caribbean retreat in Dallas.” Nope, still can’t fully wrap my brain around the concept.
The Caribbean restaurant will be located at 2610 Elm St., next to the 7-Eleven, and according to the press release “will feature a chef-inspired menu, specialty coffee and a ‘Cuban-esque’ decor – making it the best place to dine during the day, which allows guests enough time to find a dancing partner for Salsa nights.”
Menu items include homemade Spanish meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce; roasted chicken with roasted pork and jerk shrimp, salad, rice, beans, and fried plantains; and plantain dumplings topped with shrimp mojo. The café will offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, happy hour, and serve coffee the rest of the time. From a walk-up window. I guess it’s just one of those things you have to see for yourself.
Café Salsera will be open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
