I’ve hesitated to write this post, but I’ve received many emails from people who are concerned about the whereabouts of Steven Doyle. He hasn’t posted on the CraveDFW website or on Facebook for twelve days. Most of the notes I received were from friends who thought he might be in the hospital.
That is not the case. The founder of CraveDFW, a food, drink, and entertainment blog, was arrested on November 19 for failure to appear at a hearing for “criminal non support of child.” According to the jail website, Doyle is being held until he is transferred to Reno, Kansas where the hearing was originally scheduled.
The popular promoter of the Dallas restaurant and bar scene has had a few brushes with the law. Doyle has been arrested twice for DWI. The first time on September 28, 2011 and again on March 31, 2013. Those two charges have been combined and there is a jury trial set for March 25, 2015.
The majority of the notes I received expressed concern and sadness over Doyle’s predicament. One wrote: “I like Steven but I can’t say I’m surprised. He has his demons just like most of us do. I think he has a good heart deep down. I’m sad to hear that.” Several others were forgiving of the DWI charges, but disappointed to learn of the failure to pay child support. “I like him and I think he does a lot of good for the community,” writes one. “I thought he was a good guy and I know him well. I didn’t even know he had a kid.” Another says, “Sometimes it takes what it takes for someone to get help.” The last time Doyle was arrested for failure to pay child support, he said he missed one payment.
According to Robert Bostick, Doyle’s partner in CraveDFW: “Crave will indeed continue.”
