Celebrate Bastille Day and Other Things to Do in Dallas This Weekend

|

It’s Friday and I’m practically jumping out of my chair in eager anticipation of this weekend because I’m going to Austin, suckers. That’s right. My plans are to plant all 5 ft. and 2.75 inches of myself in front of East Side King and never leave that spot, ever. Not even if the world ends. Not even if Nancy hollers at me. I’ve needed an excuse to escape her Thursday love letters to me, anyway… Well, that’s a whole other story.

The downside of my Austin trip is that I’ll be missing all the Dallas action up here. It’s La Fête Nationale aka Bastille Day tomorrow, July 14, and what better way to celebrate than by stuffing your face?

Here’s where you can be French for a moment, a day, whatever:

St. Germain’s five-course dinner offers dishes from Hemingway’s favorite Parisian restaurants paired with Parisian cocktails. Fancy.

If you have dineros to drop, Red White and Blue Times Two is the Rosewood Mansion’s unique celebration of July 14. The menu looks quite smashing.

Lavendou is hosting a special Fête de la Bastille menu up until July 26. Enjoy a three-course dinner that includes escargots au vin rouge and duck confit with wild mushrooms and pommes salardaise.

Jump if you want to hear more. Don’t jump if you’re okay with staying home.

Bastille on the Bishop Festival is taking place in Oak Cliff for the third year in a row on July 14 from 7 to 11 p.m. The streets of Bishop Arts District will be covered with food and beverages (French sausage sandwiches and chocolate tarts by the new Bishop Arts restaurant Boulevardier, mussels by Michele Carpenter at Zen Sushi etc.), and Michael Martensen from Cedars Social is running multiple street-side bars. This Saturday evening party promises “mimes, cirque performances, scooter rallies, french maid relays, bicycles, baguettes, crepe stands, [and] accordions.” It sounds almost too good to be true.

Here’s where you can exercise your gluttonous American side:

Taste of Dallas starts today at 4 p.m. and ends on Sunday. Try bits and bites from 60+ restaurants that’ll be in Fair Park all weekend, but make sure you hydrate well. It’s going to be blazing hot out there and you might faint once you see these giant lollipops larger than your head. Don’t tell me I didn’t warn ya.
