This kitchen is definitely pin-worthy.

Interior design can be daunting, especially for a gal with an inspiration board full of awe-inspiring digs. But wife-to-be Monica Lake is here to tackle the challenge of creating a Pinterest-worthy room on a budget. Through her series “Pinterest meets Practical” she’ll take a do-it-yourself approach to transforming your home from dream to reality with the help of pieces from local shops.

The kitchen can be overlooked as an area to express yourself; yours could be easily revamped without having to undergo any major renovation or updates. Mine was basically barren until it finally dawned on me — I could decorate without sacrificing function or breaking the bank. Thanks to this bright, thrifty space, I’m taking a colorful leap of faith from my neutral decorating palate while registering for wedding gifts. (P.S. Kitchen Aid Mixers come in over 20 different colors. Cuteness. Overload.)

First of all, can we talk about that chandelier? It is the perfect combination of boldness and FUNction. (See what I did there? Ok, I’m done.) It not only jazzes up the vertical space, but allows you to tie in the colorful details of the room without feeling too hodge-podge-y.

I loved these West Elm cobalt blue curtains and their matching ceramic containers. If you’re a bargain hunter, stop by shops like Lula B’s Vintage or Dolly Python, where they have old-school baking canisters for sale. The woman designed this space credited much of her success to thrifty finds (and Etsy has a wealth of these under the vintage section). Don’t underestimate the power of black and white — they add personality to the room without turning it too bright and in your face. These MacKenzie Childs mugs are on my list, as well as this adorable owl cookie jar (although I’d love to find a cat version #crazycatlady). If you’re down to splurge, Jonathan Adler has a whole page of like-wise pieces.

Now that you’re unsatisfied with your current kitchen, happy shopping this weekend!
