The Dallas Symphony Orchestra announced this morning that on Saturday night, September 13, for the first time ever, they will present a live simulcast at Klyde Warren Park of their 2014 AT&T Gala Concert.
While attending the black-tie gala dinner and concert at the Meyerson Symphony Center is a pricey endeavor (the whole point of a gala is, after all, to raise money), the live simulcast at Klyde Warren Park is completely free. This means simulcast audiences will get to hear one of the world’s most famous violinists perform with Maestro Jaap van Zweden and the DSO without spending a dime or donning a designer gown.
The concert itself will be a great one to enjoy indoors or out. Legendary American violinist Itzhak Perlman will perform Bruch’s famous first violin concerto with the DSO. Bruch, a 19th-century German romantic composer, infused this piece of music with the kind of heartstring-tugging melodies and virtuosic passages audiences usually adore. In addition to the concerto, the orchestra will also perform Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe Suite No. 1 and Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio italien.
This is not the first time a local classical organization has teamed up with Klyde Warren Park to present a free-to-the-public live simulcast. Last year, a huge crowd gathered at the park for The Dallas Opera’s opening night performance of Bizet’s Carmen. The Dallas Opera will continue that tradition this year with another free, live simulcast of the opening night performance of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro on Friday, October 24.
The September 13 Dallas Symphony simulcast comes at the end of a week of free concerts and public events celebrating the Meyerson Symphony Center’s 25th anniversary. Following the 8:45pm concert, there will be a fireworks display to cap off the celebration.
