Thumbs Down to Mayor Jack Evans for uttering one of the most vapid political statements ever. Groups opposed to noise control at Love Field have distributed about 75,000 pre-printed postcards to Dallasites, asking them to mail the cards to their city council members in a show of support for the business strength of the airport. The mayor noted that council staff members have been tied up sorting and answering those missives, and that the pre-printed mailings really don’t mean much to the council. Fair enough. But then he said the letter writing is “a ridiculous waste of the time of our people. I wish they’d show more courtesy.” Jeepers, Jack, did Amy Vanderbilt write a chapter on the etiquette of democracy?
