THUMB AWARD TOO BAD, MADD

|

Thumbs Down to Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) for sending a letter to Criminal Court Judge Berlaind Brashear in an attempt to influence his ruling on a pending . DWI case Although MADD’s efforts to clear our streets of drunk drivers have provided a tremendous service, this time the group has gone too far. It’s improper and unethical to try to pressure a judge into a decision. A judge’s job is to examine the evidence presented in the courtroom. Without this system, a fair trial would be impossible. Write your congressman or your City Councilmember, but don’t write your judge. (Although Brashear did not read the letter until after he had made his decision, his ruling-that blood tests were admissible in court-was in line with what MADD wanted.)
