OHHHHHHH, SHANNON!

|

Uh-oh, Shannon Wynne is up to his o’ tricks again. The high-tech overlord of Dallas drinking establishments – Eight-O, Nostromo, Rocco and his latest, Tango -has been working on a few other o-so-wonderful projects. For openers, around the ides (or is it odes?) of this month, Nostromo’s back room will be converted into a private club for the ultra-elite called Rio. This cozy, 2,000-square-foot room will be reserved for dancing, drinking and eating hors d’oeuvres. Membership is $1,000 (that’s three 0’s) per year for those folks who wish to bring an entourage of up to three people with them. A yearly membership of $500 will accommodate those who wish to bring one guest. The decor of the club is top-secret (even those wanting to become cardholders will be unable to see the club until the grand opening August 15). Fittingly, Wynne claims the decor is “ornamental.”

In October, Wynne will be opening Mexico, a “no-frills” restaurant that will serve regional and Tex-Mex specialties. This “nothing-polished, no chichi” place will be located at the corner of Routh and Cedar Springs. The overhead, he says, should be very low compared to Rio, which is costing Nemo (Wynne’s company) about a quarter of a million dollars.

A third Wynne project-an indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar in the heart of downtown -is still in the planning stages. Wynne is looking at a location in Lincoln Plaza (on Akard off Ross). He says the proposed restaurant would be “less country-clubby and more fun” than most downtown dining spots, but would be decorated to attract a business clientele. Wynne hopes this new venture will grow with the budding Arts District. At first, he expects to attract a strong lunch business, and he eventually wants to bring in the happy-hour, nightlife crowd.

There is one more project, but Wynne is just overseeing this one. Hoffbrau Steaks owner Mike Powers is opening a barbecue drive-through restaurant on Henderson within three months. Wynne says he’s merely an investor in this endeavor and will not overshadow Powers. The name of the new place? Daddy-O’s Finger Lickin’ Ribs and Chicken.
