The nominations for the 2011 Tony Awards were announced today, and there are more than a few Dallas connections.

Douglas Carter Beane, who wrote Give It Up!, is nominated for best book of a Musical (Sister Act). Andrew Rannells, who stared in Give It Up!, is nominated for best actor in a musical for The Book of Mormon (which leads the nominations race). Todd Rosenthall designed the magnificently realist sets for The Trinity River Plays, and he is nominated in the scenic design category for The Motherf**ker with the Hat. Finally, Beowulf Boritt, longtime DTC collaborator (he worked on Tommy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Give It Up!, and Superman, and will design for Tempest and The Lighthouse, a chamber opera collaboration with the Dallas Opera), is nominated for best scenic design of a musical for The Scottsboro Boys.
