Leading Off: The Kessler Phoenix, A Challenged Park, and Abstract Painter March Madness

|

1. The Kessler Theater, once owned by Gene Autry, hit by the 1957 tornado, gutted by fire, and left vacant for 30 years, is back. Cindy Chaffin has a sneak peek video tour on Art & Seek. Festivities begin this Saturday.

2. Spring is here, so David Dillon steps out of the Performing Arts Center venues to turn his attention to Sammons Park: “The grass is brown and a few trees have died, but these are minor problems compared with the conceptual mishmash everywhere else.”

3. And now, the coolest NCAA bracket knock-off yet: America’s Greatest Living American Abstract Painter Tournament on Tyler Green’s Modern Art Notes. The tournament is still in the first round, so there is plenty of time to catch up. And if you didn’t there was a Dallas connection, one of the three seeding committee members is me old mucker from the University of Dallas, Ed Schad, who filed a couple of Los Angeles reports for Renegade Bus.
