What the Rest of the Country Thinks of Dallas After Watching Real Housewives

Nothing too bad, so far.

Tim will be along shortly with his full-on recap of what went down during the first episode of the Real Housewives of Dallas, but I thought I’d take a look at how some national sites are sizing up our fair city in the wake of last night’s premiere.

Vulture had the least to say about Dallas itself. Their writer has clearly seen enough of these Real Housewives series to understand that the women cast to generate the drama necessary to sustain one of these shows are not representative of the city at large.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta has been off the air for one day and there is already a new franchise: Dallas. Hooray! But also, huh? How the heck did it take so long for a city from the Lone Star State to get in on the action? Don’t know, but I have already gone through a roller coaster of emotions with this show. It has the potential to be a fun ride, so let’s dig into it, shall we?

At first, I was excited because this is a shiny new addition to the franchise. Then, when I saw the ladies’ ludicrous taglines, I was prepared to like none of these gals.

She ended up liking two and a half of them.

US Weekly felt the need to take an unfair dig at the Dallas music scene:

[Tiffany Hendra] rewarded her supportive — and hunky — husband with a new guitar. He then serenaded his wife in the guitar store and showed off some serious musical ability. Good thing he’s in the music capital of the world: Dallas, Texas!

Entertainment Weekly is concerned that the ladies won’t shut up about giving back:

Yeah, you look at other Housewives cities and they’re always going to charity events, but philanthropy is only part of what they do. But that’s really the focus here. I hope it doesn’t make them too nice. “Everything’s about charity, blah blah blah” — like, okay, we get it, that’s great, but hardly makes things interesting. Stop checking yourself with the charity stuff. Just start the conflict, ladies.

E Online is already joining in on casting aspersions at the suburbs:

“It’s a little Plano in here.” Our favorite new insult. (Apologies to the wonderful people of Plano in advance.)

“The carnival really prepared me for life in Dallas society.” Amen, sister.

Doesn’t seem too bad, so far.
