Formats may have changed dramatically since Dallas VideoFest’s humble beginnings at the DMA 27 years ago, but the event remains an important part of Dallas’ cultural landscape as ever. Spread out over a diverse array of venues from Richardson to South Dallas, the 11-day showcase kicks off this evening at Dallas City Performance Hall with Hitchcock’s silent film The Lodger. What separates this from a typical screening is that Dallas Chamber Symphony will provide live accompaniment, with a completely original score provided by composer, Douglas Pipes. Our classical critic, Katie Womack, claims that it could possibly be one of the chamber symphony’s “best performances this year.” Following the screening, there will be an after-party at the ever-controversial new establishment in One Arts Plaza, Proof + Pantry, provided you buy a special ticket for this part of the evening. The screening and performance begins at 8 pm.
Down at the fair today, chocolatier Katherine Clapper of Dude, Sweet Chocolate will be making an appearance at the Creative Arts Celebrity Kitchen, just in case you didn’t get enough sweets elsewhere on the fairgrounds, Templeton. For more on today’s fair events, go here.
