The most significant event taking place in Dallas tonight is unfortunately being held for especially tragic reasons, so we’ll get right to it.
The life of 13-year-old Ethan Vasquez was cut short in a hit-and-run accident that took place in the M Streets last month, and tonight a benefit is being held at the Libertine bar, in order to offset the family’s unfathomable burden. Ethan’s mother, Sandy, was critically injured in the crash.
Ethan’s older brother, Christian Vasquez, is a North Texas artist, musician, and graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. His fellow Booker T. alums have helped to organize tonight’s event. The benefit features live music from Christian, who will be partially reuniting his band, Paramecium, for the occasion. Members of the O’s and Somebody’s Darling will be on hand, and a series of acoustic performances will include Denton singer-songwriter Matthew Gray, among others.
20 dollars is the suggested donation amount for adults, and ten dollars for children. I spoke to the Libertine’s Simon McDonald on the phone just now, and he hinted at a free beverage or two as a possibility for donating. All ages are allowed in the Libertine tonight, and the memorial begins at 5 pm.
Elsewhere this evening, AT&T PAC continues its ambitious project of presenting the entire body of Shakespeare’s works, and tonight is the second reading of Antony & Cleopatra. The event begins at 7 pm at the Winspear.
