THUMB AWARD MARSALIS MAKES THE GRADE

|

Thumbs Up to the Dallas Independent School District’s ’ Thomas L. Marsalis Elementary School for being ranked one of the top three out of 100 elementary schools in the country by Phi Delta Kappa, a national honorary society. The school’s ranking will be published this summer in a book sponsored by the Phi Delta Kappa Commission for Developing Public Confidence in Schools and written by William Wayson, an expert in education policy. Wayson says that students at Marsalis strive for academic excellence and that the teachers, staff and parents are exceptionally dedicated to student achievement. Academically, Marsalis was considered to be one of the worst elementary schools in the DISD just four years ago. Credit for the dramatic turnaround in student scores and teacher attitudes is given to school principal Dr. Sherwin Allen.
