Thumbs Down to the UA Cine Theater (the most flagrant offender among many) for exploiting a captive audience with a disgusting new policy of showing commercials to viewers waiting for the movie. We don’t care how good or bad the product or service advertised-whether it’s Tony Roma’s. The Tub Club, Planned Parenthood or any of the others, When you plunk down $5 for a movie (one of the highest ticket prices in town), it’s for a movie, not a parade of advertisements. Adding insult to insult, UA follows the commercials with a pitch of its own inviting prospective workers to apply for jobs. (We’d like the marketing director’s spot.) Ironically, UA”s motto, seen between commercials, is “escape to the movies.” Now they’ve given us something else to escape.
