1. The Super Bowl XLV Host Committee has already secured nine $1 million sponsors for the 2011 championship game–and a tenth contract is at the lawyer’s office. So, the committee’s goal of getting 15 of these big sponsors is looking very realistic. Among the big donors: T. Boone Pickens, Hillwood, and Ted and Shannon Skokos. The latter is a “former Miss Arkansas and founder of the Miss Virgin Islands Scholarship Organization.” You know this is a woman with some good stories.
2. Hey, guess what? Despite Item 1, the economy continues to kick some people in the teeth. What are they doing to make ends meet? Ceasing vet care for their pets–or worse, abandoning them at shelters. I don’t like this story. Not one bit. And I hope I can see through the tears when I finally break down and adopt as many of these dogs that will fit in my apartment. Â
3. I’m running a little late today with Leading Off–my wireless connection is acting a little wacky. Good thing I didn’t attempt a trip to the library for some free Internet. (And I guess I can forget about working on my deep, dark tan at a city pool today.) Why? Today is the first mandatory furlough day for some city employees.
