LITTLE WOMEN, BIG FUN

|

So our girl about town is also our girl about the world. She just got back from Spain and managed to push the jet lag aside to see Little Women at the Music Hall. Here’s her report:

Just before I headed out to see Little Women on Sunday, I read a piece in the Wall Street Journal’s weekend edition called “Unrisky Business” by Terry Teachout. It was about remembering the value of “simple” theater. That is, the shows that make you smile and require little more than your attention. Little Women is one of those shows. It doesn’t require any preparation before, any grand thinking during, or any debriefing after. It’s a charming story with a terrific cast (including the renowned Maureen McGovern); an innovative and evolving set; and the kind of energy that makes you glad you spent the afternoon (or evening) at the theater. I just saw the History Boys in NYC a few weeks back and absolutely loved it. But it was nice to take my 7-year-old to Music Hall and simply enjoy. The show runs through June 4.
