Welcome to the sweetest-smelling spot in North Oak Cliff. Scents of sandalwood, fresh basil, and eggplant—yes, eggplant—waft through owners Pamela Jackson and Jeremi V. Headrick’s small yet chic Bishop Arts District gift shop. The duo’s signature line of candles dominates the front of the boutique. But dig deeper and you’ll find a store full of vintage items that further Society’s mantra: simple elegance for gracious living. “We made a pact when developing ideas for the shop to only sell pieces that we both love,” Pamela says. “Pieces we would have in our own homes or items we would be pleased to give as gifts to others.” Vintage loving cups and jewelry appear next to vases, lanterns, and other stylish yet lovingly worn knickknacks. Willowy bare branches cast alluring silhouettes against the shop’s ebony walls. “Yes, we love black,” Jeremi says. “It’s our go-to neutral.” The shop feels industrial yet warm, a reflection of their design sensibility. The two designers have run full-service firm Jackson Vaughn since 2000. They create spaces that feel like they have evolved rather than been decorated. Society opened in downtown McKinney in 2006. Since the two both lived in Dallas, they wanted to find a place closer to home that had the charm and small-community feel of McKinney but with a bustling artistic vibe. Oak Cliff was the perfect fit. “We are constantly inspired by the architecture, colors, landscape, and people of this neighborhood,” Pamela says. In the future, look for handcrafted jewelry, more unique decorative objects, and original tabletop pieces.
