The poster boy for happy chic, Jonathan Adler, officially joins McKinney Avenue’s roster of décor destinations. Brimming with his modern and poppy wares, Adler’s eponymous store aims to “bring style, craft, joy, and a general feeling of grooviness to your home.” We asked the iconic potter/designer/author  to share some thoughts on our fair city and what he’s loving at the moment.

D: Why Dallas?
JA: Dallas is populated by the most glamorous people, has the most gorgeous art museums, and inspired one of the greatest soap operas of all time. What’s not to love?

D: Anything special planned for us?
JA: I really want my stores to reflect the city they are in via the setup and special touches in the decor…To me, Dallas is all about eccentric glamour.

D: You were in for [partner] Simon Doonan’s book signing a couple of months ago. Favorite Dallas haunts?
JA: Dallas is larger than life, just like its residents. I love Forty Five Ten—it’s very dangerous for my wallet, and I love the restaurant. The Dallas Museum of Art is incredible, and it’s always a blast to browse through Leddy’s. Maybe one day I’ll take the plunge and get my own custom boots.

D: Your brand epitomizes happiness and humor. What makes you happy?
JA: My triumvirate of happiness-inducers is my hubby, Simon Doonan; our Norwich terrier Liberace (who was born in Dallas!); and making pottery. And my favorite, favorite, favorite activity is paddleboarding at our groovy beach house in Shelter Island.

D: What’s inspiring you now?
JA: People always ask me that and, to be honest, it’s an almost impossible question to answer. I’m inspired by so many things. It could be the shape of a seashell or a bit of graffiti. I get tons of ideas from travel, and I get lots of ideas in my sleep. I try to keep my eyes and my mind wide open.
