Friday Fun with Jim Williamson

A little bit of Jim makes everything better.

ireland289It’s cold and rainy and gloomy. I think we could use a little warmth from our friend Jim Williamson. The big one is almost upon us. By “big one,” I don’t mean the cold front or the JFK memorial, which made for an interesting ride to work, by the way. I tried an alternate route today, and I just want to say that I will miss seeing the white X on the road on my daily drive to work. But I digress. I am talking about that bird and that meal that you’re about to serve to friends and family—including your crazy aunt who always says the absolutely most wrong thing. It has (almost) nothing to do with her fondness for plum wine.

I’ve heard that there is a shortage of turkeys larger than 16 pounds, so last night, we grabbed the last one at the grocery store. Lucky for me, I don’t have to do any of the cooking this year. Max likes to take care of that portion. Since the kitchen isn’t exactly built for two cooks (egos), I’ve decided after some deliberation (none) to forgo baking anything. Serving an overdone bundt cake isn’t exactly the finale I want to recreate. But I will help start the day’s events with my sole duty for the day, the preparation of Bloody Marys. That should definitely help keep things moving in the right direction. As far as I know you can’t burn a Bloody Mary.

As far as design news, I recently read some notes from the DLS (Design Leadership Summit) that the end of the chair is coming. Yes, you read that correctly. Jimbo needs lots more evidence on this subject. Apparently, since it is bad for us to sit for extended periods of time, we will begin standing to do most of our work. The thinking is that the chair will eventually phase out. Coming from someone who has stood and worked on cement floors for decades, I think you should hang on to that chair. No matter what, the chair should not be phased out before all the tryptophan hits my system because I do not like napping standing up.

With that, I’m off.  “Wait! What? No novella this week?” you ask. That’s right. That is my holiday gift to you. I give you less time with me so you can spend more time with your family. Take that how you want it. I also leave you with this lovely image of a perfectly styled dining room from a lady who really knows how to throw a dinner party, Kathryn Ireland.

I bid you a happy Friday and a happy Thanksgiving. Keep that calorie count to a minimum as well as your exposure to crazy Aunt Helen.
