Summer is meant for chasing fireflies, having cannonball contests, and wearing the permanent smell of sunscreen all day long. But, as the temperature keeps nearing 100 degrees, it’s much easier to stay inside. Resist the Netflix urge and don’t waste your summer eating chips on the couch–join in on some of Dallas’ best fitness events this July.

JULY 9

FC Dallas Footy 5K and Fun Run

Benefitting the FC Dallas Foundation, the FC Dallas Footy 5K and Fun Run is coming back for its second year. The foundation works to impact disadvantaged youth through the power of soccer. The fun run kicks off at 8 a.m. at Toyota Stadium. The 5K begins at 8:15 a.m. You can register here.

Pool Party: #summertoinspire

The Three Twelve Co. pool party, held on the rooftop pool at the W Hotel, will feature a fit smoothie sample, recipes, a Q&A with Nutrition by Kara, and a 45-minute workout led by The Kalon Life.  There will also be gift bags stuffed with swag from Kona Body, All the Wire bracelets, Bliss Spa at the W, Bandier, and others. You can also count on kitschy pool floats for photo ops with Beckley & Co, along with custom cocktails made using fresh, cold-pressed juice. Get your ticket here.

JULY 10

Too Hot to Handle 5K and 15K

Just because the sun is beating down overhead doesn’t mean you can’t have fun running in it! The 5K, which takes place in Norbuck Park, isn’t your typical race. The park will be full of live music, beer, and snacks. The 5K route is the most popular, but you can also sign up for the flat 15K route. Register here, and don’t forget to join the free social run July 6 at Lake House Bar and Grill. They’ll be raffling off prizes, along with $1 flatbreads and burgers.

JULY 14

5th Annual Splash Out Childhood Cancer at Hawaiian Falls

Join in on a special day of waterpark fun from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Hawaiian Falls in The Colony. For the 5th year in a row, TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation and Hawaiian Falls have joined forces to help fund cancer research. Purchase a ticket here for a discounted ticket ($20 plus tax) that benefits TeamConnor. The ticket is valid through Labor Day weekend at any Hawaiian Falls location. 

JULY 23

Vodka Trot

Running meets vodka in this 5K. Wear your most creative costume and run or walk your way through the course, stopping at a giant vodka pong station to win your complimentary vodka sample. Then, make your way to the vodka festival and dance! This race is way more about the fun than the run, so keep that in mind if you’re trying to sprint through the course. JULY 24

Summer Sweat Series 2016

Get your workout on at the Westin Galleria Dallas with GRIT Fitness‘ Tone & Tighten series, where you’ll sculpt muscles through small, controlled movements. Bring a yoga mat and towel, and get ready to sweat! Afterward, sip on handcrafted beverages and recharge at the pool. Register the day of the event for free. Find out more here.

JULY 30

Mavs SPIKED!

Bump, set, and spike at the second annual Mavs SPIKED!, a glow-in-the-dark sand volleyball tournament, complete will all sorts of Mavs goodies. You can register in teams of six to eight, which includes event tanks, beach towels, $25 vouchers for Mavs tickets, glow-sticks, and drinks. If you’re not so much for the actual volleyball playing, buy a Party Pass that gets you a $10 Mavs game voucher, glow-sticks, yard games, and music from DJ Joe Ramirez. Prizes include an 18-person Mavs game suite, Mavs merchandise, a trophy, and gifts from sponsors. Register your team here for $300 (prices go up to $350 on July 6). This event is 21 and up only. JULY 31

Community National Dance Day

Celebrate the power of dance at The J with a fun-filled event to encourage the community to embrace dance. From 1-4 p.m., you can Zumba, groove your way through the West Coast Swing, and dance with the Texas Ballet Dance Company to “Uptown Funk.” This free class is open to members and non-members, and there will be a kickoff performance by the Texas Ballet Dance Company. Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Summer Camp

Learn from the famous Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders at the DCC Dance Academy’s three-day dance and cheer program. Campers ages 6 through 16 can join and will be grouped by age to learn routines, self-confidence, and dance technique. Members of the DCC squad will be the trainers, giving everyone the opportunity to be taught by America’s Sweethearts. Registration also includes authentic DCC poms, two tickets to a pre-season game at AT&T Stadium, and an opportunity to perform with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders in a pre-season halftime performance. Registration is $275, and camp is offered at AT&T Stadium, Valley Ranch, or Benton Middle School in Irving.

Zumba at Klyde Warren Park

Every Wednesday evening at 6 p.m., strut your stuff with Zumba at Klyde Warren Park.

Yoga With Reef Point Yoga

No matter your fitness level, join in for free yoga on the first Saturday of every month in the outdoor plaza at CityLine. Led by certified instructors from Reef Point Yoga, this will get you breathing deeply in a fun environment. Bring along your mats and friends, and get your sun salutation on! You can park for free in one, two, and three CityLine garages.

Intense Workouts with Bryan & Dr. Bruce

Burn calories every Saturday morning with an hour-long workout full of high-energy exercise at Klyde Warren Park. Remember a set of dumbbells, a water bottle, sunscreen, and a towel. They recomment 8-to-10-pound weights and 3-to-5-pound weights for children or seniors. Top off your workout with the Saturday food trucks, which stay open until 3 p.m.
