Tom Landis, the man behind Texadelphia, is one of the most compassionate men in the restaurant business. He was one of the first, if not the first, to arrange English lessons for his Spanish speaking staff. Landis is a huge promoter of hiring employees with special needs. Landis plans to open his new concept, Howdy Homemade, next week. The menu will inclue salads, sandwiches, and ice cream. Landis will introduce “the world’s first Dr Pepper Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.” His goal, other than serving great food and ice cream, is to work with numerous special needs organizations to hire, train and employ people with Down Syndrome and Autism. In short, to change the way businesses hire people with special needs.

The Landis mission statement:

Most restaurants subscribe to Warren Zevon-esque beliefs: send lawyers, guns & money. Howdy Ice Cream is more like Kermit-ology: we want the lovers and dreamers. We’re all about two things: great food and even better people. We hope to change the way the world looks at everyone. Howdy Homemade was founded on a steel conviction that the restaurant industry is about people first, then food. It’s a belief that has stood the test of time — almost two decades — and helped open 13 Texadelphia restaurants.

Howdy Homemade is located at 4333 W. Lovers Lane. “We are about a week away,” Landis says.  That make me an excitable girl.
