The Week’s Five Best Art Galleries Openings and Events

The poet Kenneth Goldsmith will read at The Reading Room this coming Monday. But before we get there, openings at RE Gallery, SMU, and more.

Extended Temporalities: Jin-me Yoon at Pollock Gallery — March 20, 5 p.m. 3140 Dyer Street, Dallas, Texas 75205.

With photography and video that documents the artist crawling across cities or presents subjects obscured against painted backdrops, Korean-born, Vancouver-based artist Jin-me Yoon’s explores the influence of urban environments, globalized economies, and the fabricated landscapes on individual identity and contemporary life.

 

Sleep Architecture and the Dream House by Rebecca Carter at RE Gallery — March 21, 6-8 p.m. 1717 Gould Street, Dallas, Texas 75215.

Much of Rebecca Carter’s work uses ephemeral or delicate materials to explore the fragility of memory and the effects of time on relationships or notions of self. In this latest solo show at RE Gallery, Carter has employed a process called “sleep mapping” to collect scientific and poetic data which is then translated into thread drawings.

 

Clear Jam: Closing Show by Jeff Gibbons, Gregory Ruppe, and Justin Ginsberg at CentralTrak — March 22, 12-5 p.m. 800 Exposition Ave, Dallas, Texas 75226.

Not only will Jeff Gibbons, Gregory Ruppe, and Justin Ginsberg be improvising a five hour soundtrack at the closing of this exhibition at CentralTrak, but the trio of artists have issued an open call to anyone who wants to bring an instrument or noisemaker and join in. The Voice’s Folds – Screening of work by Morehshin Allahyari, Michael A. Morris, and Jenny Vogel at Two Bronze Doors — March 22, 7 p.m. 5732 Richmond Ave., Dallas, Texas 75206.

Two Bronze Doors is a relatively new arts space located in a big old house near Greenville Ave. Run by University of Texas at Dallas student Jonathan Foisset, this weekend it will host a screening of works in a variety of media by Morehshin Allahyari, Michael A. Morris, and Jenny Vogel.

 

Kenneth Goldsmith Reading at The Reading Room — March 24, 7 p.m. 3715 Parry Ave. Dallas, TX 75226. 

Kenneth Goldsmith is the founder of what may be the best website on the internet, Ubuweb. He is also an accomplished poet and will offer a reading Monday night. For a preview of sorts, check out Goldsmith on The Colbert Report (which includes a shout-out to Dallas’ KLIF).
