Two different and distinctive cultures, one ballet company. The Texas Ballet Theater offers its interpretation of the challenging Lambarena, choreographed by the always-eclectic Val Caniparoli and premiered by the San Francisco Ballet in 1995. His piece blends traditional African tribal rhythms and music, from which it derives its name, with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.  For a tease, check out this video. Glen Tetley’s Voluntaries, choreographed in 1973, was inspired by the spiritual feel of the music he selected by Francis Poulenc. The dramatic piece has been described as “a work that is both elegy and affirmation.” The show will also feature three Pas de Deux from Sylvia, Laila and the Swan and Ave Maria.

Here’s your chance to enjoy this eclectic program and the Dallas premiere of Voluntaries on the house. We have two pairs of tickets to give away. One pair is for Saturday, the other is for Sunday. On both days, there will be food trucks, live jazz, African artifacts in the Wyly lobby, and a special, ballet-themed cocktail at the Wyly bar before the performance. We recommend getting there early and making an afternoon of it.

Just tell us why you should win the tickets, and specify whether you can attend Saturday or Sunday. One winner will receive a pair of tickets to the Lambarena and Voluntaries 2 p.m. show on Saturday, May 4 at the Wyly Theatre; the other gets two tickets to the 2 p.m. show on Sunday, May 5.
