Hello again, everybody! This is Michael “Grubes” Gruber, music director for your Texas Rangers. Welcome to my Super Awesome Baseball Playlist of Merriment and Mirth!

June has been hotter than usual, and so have the Rangers (well, at least for part of the month)! Did the music I played at Globe Life Field have a direct correlation to the on-field results? Well, probably not, but a good time was had nonetheless, so let’s get to the playlist!

“American Girl,” Tom Petty: Those jangly guitar chords are an instant mood lifter, especially when you’re getting ready to watch a baseball game!

“Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl),” Looking Glass: A ballpark staple! Perfect background music while you watch the Rangers’ stellar grounds crew prep the field.

“Cake By The Ocean,” DNCE: One of those songs that I don’t seek out while listening to music on my own time, but I can count on it to get fans dancing in their seats!

“Future Me Hates Me,” The Beths: I played this one pregame a few weeks ago and immediately got excited texts from two guys who know a thing or two about music! (In the interest of full disclosure, Eric actually recommended the Beths to me last year.)

“Hot,” Daddy Yankee & Pitbull: This track is a “banger,” as the kids say. It’s impossible not to feel like partying when this comes on!

“Hungry Like The Wolf,” Duran Duran: This ’80s classic has become the designated track for Ezequiel Duran doubles. Duran Duran … get it? Hahaha, I slay me.

“Mr. Blue Sky,” ELO: This track is one of my dad’s favorites, and I play it every time he’s at a game. Happy Father’s Day!

“Return of the Mack,” Mark Morrison: Two things are guaranteed when you hear me play this track: 1) Former Ranger great and current Bally Sports Southwest Rangers pregame/postgame analyst Mark McLemore is in the building, and 2) The great Chuck Morgan is in the PA booth singing his heart out to his “walk-up” song.

“This Girl,” Kungs vs. Cookin On 3 Burners: This bouncy song is great to play between innings when the crowd could use a little pep. The horns are a delight!

What Should We Make of the Rangers’ Accidental Youth Movement?

It's been 26 years since a defending World Series champion leaned on this many young players out of the gate. In Texas' case, that wasn't the plan. But that doesn't make an influx of former first-round picks a bad thing, either.
