RIGHT BRIGHT: Baby Bean Wear bibs (bottom left) and threads from Chiquita (above) are just a few of the great things being designed locally.

Style Makers
A handful of talented locals are making sure Dallas babies stay in style. Spilled Milk creator Stephanie Bernal designs “kid couture” out of vintage fabrics, trims, and embellishments in sizes 1 through 6. We love the swing coats ($65-$150/214-566-2610 or www.spilledmilk.biz). Christine Visneau of Baby Bean Wear creates affordable and stylish frocks, hats, and bibs out of vintage fabrics for kids 6 months to 6 years old ($15-$78/Bebe Grand or www.babybeanwear.com). Helena & Harry IV Co., the hottest couture line for kids, is designed right here in Dallas by Susan Ingram. Even the wee ones need special-occasion dressing: think velvet Mailer coats, cashmere dresses, and houndstooth pants in sizes 0 to 14 ( $120-$1,000/Neiman Marcus Downtown or www.helenaco.com). Local husband-and-wife team Sylvia and Steve Dominquez design and produce Chiquita, a trendy and affordable line in sizes 4 to 14, available at Little Bo-tique West, Safari Kids, and Revelations. ($40-$180/www.chiquitawear.com).

Baby Blues

TRUE BLUE: Hot denim line True Religion  offers kids’ sizes, too.

Jeans are a wardrobe staple these days, even for our kids. Keep an eye out for adorable mini versions of True Religion ($106-$128/Saks Fifth Avenue, Jean Connection, Neiman Marcus), Seven For All Mankind ($110/Neiman Marcus, Jean Connection), Paper Denim & Cloth ($97-$105/Jean Connection), and Diesel ($88-$110/Jean Connection). If you don’t want to pay the hefty price tag, check out resale shop Kids Kloset, where you can often find designer labels for your tots. Speaking of kiddie denim, Jean Connection, the place we grown-ups count on for the perfect pair of jeans, recently added a children’s section. We love the vintage rock tees by Trunk, western belts by Just Reality, embellished jeans by English Roses, and Glama-Jama pj’s. Look for Paul Frank’s children’s line, Small Paul, trendy pieces by Za Za Couture, and funky pieces by Sara Sara this fall.
