Thumbs down to City Council members Al Lipscomb and Diane Ragsdale for their obvious bad faith during the first meeting of the Dallas Citizens Charter Review Committee in March. During the two-and-a-half hour meeting, Ragsdale and Lipscomb, who appointed themselves to the committee, hogged the floor during debates and lectured the committee about “process” and “hidden agendas.” They refused to listen to chairman Ray Hutchison when he responded. Lipscomb and Ragsdale obviously do not want the committee to succeed, probably because they correctly see that their political futures are based more on racial conflict and frustration than on racial peace and harmony. We think they should step down from the committee and get out of the way of progress.
