THUMBS DOWN A HOOK FOR CASTILLA

|

THUMBS DOWN to DISD board member RENE CASTILLA for attempting to eliminate required auditions from the admissions process at the Booker T. Washington High School for me Performing and Visual Arts. Castilla, who seems to think there is something ominously racist about requiring performers to get up and perform, forgets that these gifted dancers and thespians will face endless auditions as they follow their dreams. Besides, Castilla also overlooks the fact that while the school is 59 percent Anglo, 30 percent black, and 10 percent Hispanic, 64 percent of Hispanics who applied this year were accept-ed. That’s considerably higher than the 48 percent of Anglos accepted or the 46 percent of blacks. Get the hook for Castilla.
