Shortly after City Councilman Sid Stahl announced that he wouldn’t be seeking reelection to his council seat (place 9, at-large), Jerry Rucker filed as an official candidate for the spot. It also looks like Joe Stedman, chairman of the board of Texas Commerce Bank Casa Linda is a likely prospect for candidacy to City Councilman Rolan Tucker’s seat, place 4, Central and North Dallas.



Speaking of Stahl’s announcement … when the councilman finished his statement, all the questions from the press had been fired, all the flashbulbs had been flashed and the TV cameras had been turned off, a low-key voice spoke out, “I’m not a reporter, so I can have an opinion.” The man went on to say how grateful the City of Dallas is for the service Stahl has provided the community. An editorial comment is uncommon amid the usual hustle of a press conference. The speaker? Bert Holmes, associate editor for the Dallas Times Herald.



To say that Assistant City Manager Vic Suhm has his hands fun these days is an understatement: He’s in charge of five city departments. City Manager Charles Anderson has decided to take some of the load off of Suhm and is looking for someone to fill a new position titled assistant city manager in charge of planning and development.

It seems that the Dallas Downtown News may be broadening its horizons in the months ahead. Publisher Lyn Dunsavage is looking at starting up another weekly newspaper, this one targeted to a North Dallas audience.
