›› Watches should be serviced every three to five years. Water-resistant watches may also benefit from annual water-resistance tests.
›› Avoid leaving your watch in extreme temperatures, as extreme heat or cold may shorten the battery life or cause the watch to gain or lose time.
›› Avoid chemicals, solvents, strong electric fields, and hard impact. Soaps can also make karat gold jewelry appear dull, while chlorine, especially at high temperatures, can permanently discolor gold.
›› Store your watch separately from other jewelry to avoid scratches.
›› A self-winding watch must first be “initiated,” or wound manually, before it will enable the power reserve and run automatically. From then on, it should be worn for at least eight hours a day to maximize the reserve. After about 20 hours of non-use, the initiation process must be repeated.
