THR, Cooper Aerobics Offer New Mental Health, Wellness Services in McKinney

|

Texas Health Resources has begun providing behavioral healthcare and “integrated wellness” services at the Cooper Craig Ranch in McKinney.

Services include health consultations, counseling, and group therapy that address physical and mental well-being. Group therapy will include sessions for adolescents and women. Special programs will address the emotional aspects of chronic pain, heart and cancer issues, and anxiety.

The services are provided by about a dozen employees from Texas Health Springwood Hospital in Bedford and the Seay Behavioral Health Center at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano. THR and Cooper officials say the new services comprise a wellness center.

Cooper Craig Ranch wellness activities also include yoga and Pilates classes, massage therapy, nutritional counseling for adults and youth, and Airrosti injury recovery.

Roger Sargent, Cooper Craig Ranch general manager, said Dr. Kenneth Cooper urged him about 18 months ago to create an integrated wellness program. He said he approached THR because of Cooper’s relationship with the organization. He said THR is a client of Cooper Consulting Partners, the organization’s workplace wellness consulting unit.

Ramona Osburn, senior director of behavioral health for the Bedford and Plano facilities, estimated that THR patients, Cooper clients and community members each would comprise about one-third of the group-session participants. She said group sessions would integrate Cooper wellness programs such as yoga and cooking classes.

She said the McKinney location serves fast-growing communities such as Plano, Frisco, and Allen.

THR has six DFW behavioral-health satellite locations that offer traditional group therapy.
